Imparare means “to learn.” It is a regular -ARE verb and the natural one for picking up a language, a skill or a lesson from experience.
Infinitive
imparare
English
to learn
Auxiliary
avere
Past participle
imparato
Gerund
imparando
Regular -ARE verb on the stem impar-: imparo, impari, impara, impariamo, imparate, imparano. The stress falls on pa in the singular and in imparano (im-PA-ro, im-PA-ra-no), not on the first syllable. Future and conditional: imparerò, imparerei. Imperfect: imparavo. Passato remoto: imparai, imparò, impararono. Present subjunctive: che io impari, che loro imparino. There are no irregular forms.
You imparare a thing directly (imparo l'italiano, ha imparato la lezione) or learn to do something with a plus an infinitive: sto imparando a nuotare, ho imparato a cucinare da mia nonna. Who you learn from takes da: l'ho imparato da mio padre. Imparare a memoria is learning by heart. Studiare is related but different: you can study a lot and learn little. In some regional speech, imparare is used for “to teach” (mi impari?), but standard Italian uses insegnare for that. The mistake is common enough that it is worth knowing.
Imparare takes avere: ho imparato, abbiamo imparato molto. The participle agrees with a preceding direct object pronoun: la poesia? L'ho imparata a memoria; i verbi li hai imparati?

Common mistakes
Mi puoi insegnare l'inglese?, not Mi puoi imparare l'inglese? (Can you teach me English?). In standard Italian, imparare means only “to learn.” Teaching someone is insegnare: insegno l'italiano agli stranieri.
Imparo a nuotare., not Imparo di nuotare. (I'm learning to swim.). Before an infinitive, imparare takes a, not di.
What is the difference between imparare and insegnare?
Imparare is to learn, insegnare is to teach. The student impara and the teacher insegna: il professore insegna la storia, gli studenti imparano le date.
Does imparare take essere or avere?
Avere: ho imparato, avete imparato, avrei imparato. It always has something learned, even when it is not said.
What is the difference between imparare and studiare?
Studiare is the effort of studying: studio due ore al giorno. Imparare is the result, actually acquiring knowledge or a skill: ho imparato venti parole nuove.
Is imparare regular?
Yes. It follows the regular -ARE endings in every tense. Learners mostly need to watch the stress: im-PA-ro, not IM-pa-ro.
