Two Ways to Say Into
The pronunciation changes with the meaning or the part of speech. The form above is the most common; the others are:
- emphatic form, with the second beat loud: /ɪnˈtu/ (in-TOO)
- weak form, in-tuh before a consonant: /ɪntə/

Common Mispronunciations of Into
Not in-TOO as the default
A loud second beat is for contrast, as in I said into the box, not onto it. Ordinary use opens loud instead.
Not IN-toh
The o at the end says oo. An oh vowel there would make the word sound like the Spanish ending it is not.
Tip: Before a consonant the ending relaxes to uh, so into the house comes out IN-tuh the house.
