Common Mistakes with Estudiar Conjugation
Incorrect: Estudio el español. — I study Spanish. (subtle, usually no article)
Correct: Estudio español. — I study Spanish.
School subjects and languages generally don't take a definite article after estudiar. Estudio español, not Estudio el español.
Incorrect: Estudié por el examen. — I studied for the exam. (wrong, purpose takes para)
Correct: Estudié para el examen. — I studied for the exam.
Purpose / goal takes para. Por would imply because of the exam (which is a stretch). Estudiar para is the standard combination.
Incorrect: Quiero que estudias más. — I want you to study more. (wrong, querer que triggers subjunctive)
Correct: Quiero que estudies más. — I want you to study more.
Querer que + different subject triggers subjunctive. Estudies (subjunctive), not estudias (indicative).
